Swords and Scallops

Not the way to go about evangelizing

Via my laptop's 1.3 megapixel webcam.

The Campus Crusaders for Christ were out on the quad today. At first, I felt pretty bad for them, because people were yelling "Jesus Sucks!" at some guy who was talking about how "Jesus saved the world and he's alive today." But as I moved on, I saw more signs.

It's hard to read, but the white sign on the left says "Last Days! Satan Rules! Turn to Jesus, Not Church!" with various Bible verses plastered on. I couldn't get close because I wanted to avoid a confrontation which might have ended up with me having a broken laptop.

Here's me sneaking up behind. Apparently these guys know AOL speak.

The reverse of the white sign. Not so bad.

Anyway, I took these pictures coming back from weekday mass. Father John Soares mentioned them in the homily too. Telling people that they're going to Hell is not the way to evangelize. This goes completely against the notion that God is Love. Fear of going to Hell only gets you an imperfect contrition if that is your intention. This is not the way to get people to accept Jesus. They're giving all of us Christians a bad name.

I feel your pain. Protestant groups go out and provoke all the atiest/gay/secular/free love/communist types.

What you get is one side saying "Jesus Sucks" and "Christianity is Violent just look at the Crusades" and another saying that "Catholics aren't real Christians they don't follow the Bible and Worship Mary."

What is a Catholic to do?

"What is a Catholic to do?"

    PRAY! :-)

The sign that reads "Give Jesus a Chance 2 Luv U" means he doesn't already, making his love conditional on your obedience to Him--which the preacher Michael Woroniecki is more than willing to define for you as becoming a jobless, itinerent, obnoxious preacher like him.

    Here's his bio:

    Tru' dat.

But dude, honestly; we're just preaching the 5th Gospel...that God is love and blah-blah. We're talking less about how the Lord is our savior and talking more about US. Us, us, us. Let's save those poor souls from damnation because if not they're go to hell!

Shouldn't it be "Let's save those poor souls so that the Kingdom of God can grow?"

It's just centered around US as a human being. We call our God "Lord" and yet when we pray we say, "Lord, watch over my family, bless them; keep my dog Sally safe."

Does a servant command the master or does the master command the servant?

I don't know. Check out "Disciple" by Juan Carlos Ortiz. Really changes your insight on things.
